From what I can tell, the icons of the button look to be approximately the right size, the main issue is that the buttons lack a significant amount of top/bottom padding. That's not always a bad thing keeps things fresh. If you launch Firefox and launch another new windows the problem are still here but not if when the windows are launched when you click on link (you know the link who launch a lot of windows of pub). Because this change also alters the hitbox of the close button, it really messes up the end users muscle-memory when they go to close the window. They stir things up and don't always do things the way they've always been done. One thing I like about Ubuntu is that they have a knack for getting people riled up. Too bad GNOME doesn't make it as easy to move the window buttons around as Xfce does, where there's a nice GUI for re-arranging the window buttons in the Window Manager Settings.Īnyway, I'm glad that Ubuntu at least considered the idea (has a final decision been made?). I saw a point made by someone that it was Microsoft that decided to put those buttons on the right side. If it's something that keeps another person from warming up to Linux, then so be it, they probably wouldn't have warmed up to Linux anyway.Ĭertainly a case can be made that putting them on the left side makes more sense.

It never freaked me out to go from Windows to a Mac and see the buttons on the other side, or to try a different theme in Linux where the buttons weren't where I was used to them being.Īnd there's no way that the location of the window buttons would have made a bit of difference to me when I was a Linux newbie. Seems like a minor issue to me, and people are making a big deal of it.
